In Azerbaijan, Turkish channels are the most watched foreign broadcasts — the closeness of the language, the volume of series production and the live working rhythm of the news channels all account for that. In the package the Turkish broadcasts are split into three separate categories, each with its own technical logic. Channel names belong to their respective rights holders.
Turkish channels (51 channels)
This is the main group of general entertainment, series and news channels. Most channels come in two variants — HD and HD+ — so that you can open the lower one and keep watching when your connection is weak.
Pay attention to the yellow group in the last rows: Euro Star, Euro D, ATV Avrupa, Kanal 7 Avrupa HD+ and TRT Avaz HD — these are the variants prepared for Europe. Their programme schedules differ slightly from the domestic broadcast, and some content exists only on these streams.
News streams encoded in HEVC
The same category also holds news channels with HEVC at the end of the name: TRT Haber, A Haber, CNN Turk, NTV, Haber Turk, Haber Global, Halk TV and Sözcü TV. HEVC is the new-generation video compression standard (H.265). It carries the same picture quality on roughly half the bandwidth.
To play an HEVC stream the device has to support that codec. Smart TVs and phones of recent years do; on an older Android box or a television made before 2015 the channel may not open, or may give sound only. In that case you choose the non-HEVC variant of the same channel — every one of the news channels has an ordinary HD version in the package too.
Quality marks — HD, HD+, 2K, 4K
The mark next to a channel name is not marketing: it tells you both the resolution and the connection speed required. This table shows at a glance which one to choose.
| Mark | What it means | Speed required | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| HD | Picture around 1280×720 | 8–10 Mbps | Phone, tablet, screens up to 32 inches |
| HD+ | A higher-bitrate Full HD stream | 12–15 Mbps | 43–55 inch Smart TV |
| 2K (QHD) | A step between Full HD and 4K | 18–20 Mbps | 55 inches and up, non-4K screen |
| 4K (UHD) | 3840×2160 picture | 25+ Mbps | UHD television larger than 55 inches |
| HEVC | Not a resolution but a compression method | Less for the same quality | Weak connection, recent device |
The practical rule is simple: if your screen is small, a 4K stream is pointless. On a 32-inch television the eye does not catch the difference between 4K and HD, while three times as much bandwidth is spent. The opposite is also true: on a 65-inch UHD television an HD stream looks soft and blurry. In detail: what 4K IPTV requires.
Turkey national UHD-QHD (19 channels)
This category consists of the high-resolution variants of the main Turkish channels. Here the 4K and the 2K version of the same channel sit side by side, so you can pick the one that matches your connection.
For people who watch series this is where the difference is largest: Turkish series are shot in brightly lit studios and in wide shots, and on a 4K stream the detail of the sets and the costumes stands out clearly. On the film and series archive: film and series page.
Turkish documentary channels (18 channels)
The third group is the documentary channels with Turkish voice-over. Here you get the Turkish versions of international productions, which means you can watch without reading subtitles.
We have written separately about what these channels are worth to schoolchildren and younger children: science, education and documentary channels.
Tivibu and D-Smart channels
There is a fourth group that completes the Turkish content — the 15-channel Tivibu and D-Smart category. It holds themed movie channels and nonstop streams devoted to classic Turkish cinema: Kemal Sunal 7/24, Şener Şen 7/24, Hababam Sınıfı 7/24, Cüneyt Arkın 7/24, along with channels such as Dizi Smart Max FHD and Sinema TV FHD.
Which variant to choose — the short rule
- If your connection is around 10 Mbps: the HD and HEVC variants.
- If it is 12–15 Mbps: the HD+ variants — the most balanced choice for everyday viewing.
- If it is around 20 Mbps and the screen is large: the 2K variants.
- If it is above 25 Mbps and the television is UHD: the 4K variants.
- If a channel freezes, always try the variant one step down — that solves it in most cases.
Which step your own connection reaches is only shown by real viewing. During the 24-hour free trial, open the HD, HD+ and 4K variant of the same channel one after another and compare them — the decision is easy after that.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between HD+ and HD?
HD+ is the higher-bitrate, Full HD level stream of the same channel; HD is the lighter variant that needs less bandwidth. The difference in the picture shows up especially on a large screen and in fast motion. The practical approach: choose HD+ on a television larger than 43 inches, while HD is enough on a phone or on a weak connection.
What does HEVC mean, and why is it in some channel names?
HEVC (H.265) is the new-generation video compression standard. It carries the same quality on roughly half the bandwidth, which is why the HEVC variant of a news channel runs more stably on a weak connection. The condition is that your device must support HEVC — on older Android boxes the channel may not open. In that case you choose the ordinary HD variant of that channel.
Do Turkish channels open from Azerbaijan without obstacles?
Yes. The subscription code is not tied to a country; the same list opens from anywhere with internet. The European variants (Euro Star, Euro D, ATV Avrupa, TRT Avaz) are in the package too — their programme schedules differ a little from the domestic broadcast. We have written about the differences between regions on the regional IPTV page.
What do I need to watch the 4K Turkish channels?
Three things: a UHD-capable television, steady 25+ Mbps internet and, if possible, a cable connection. If one of them is missing, choosing the 2K or HD+ variant is the better call — the match or the episode runs without breaks. Opening 4K content on a Full HD television brings no benefit: the screen scales the picture down to its own resolution and the bandwidth is spent for nothing.
Can I watch a series from the beginning?
On a live channel the broadcast runs from the current episode, but the package also has a VOD archive — the past episodes of many series are picked from there. In the archive you can pause, rewind and watch the episodes in order — on a live channel that control is limited. That is exactly why most series watchers move to the archive. We have written out the difference between watching on a channel and picking from the archive on the film and series page.
How many Turkish channels are there?
Our open list names 88 channels across three categories: 51 Turkish channels, 19 Turkey national UHD-QHD and 18 Turkish documentary. Add the 15 channels of the Tivibu and D-Smart category and Turkish content makes up the largest part of the package. The full names are on the channels page.
