A computer is a very capable device for IPTV: the screen is large, the processor is far more powerful than a television's, and a cable network is usually already in place. That is why freezing is least common on Windows. In return, other issues come up — codecs, player settings and security warnings.
This page covers three players, connecting to a television by HDMI, and the problems specific to Windows. If you use a laptop, the connection section at the end is for you.
Three players, three different needs
| Player | Who it suits | Its strength |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Media Player | Anyone who just wants to watch channels | Free, light, reads almost every format |
| IPTV Smarters Pro (Windows) | Anyone who wants categories, a guide and an archive | The same interface as on the phone, plus a films and series section |
| MyIPTV Player | Anyone who wants to install from the Microsoft Store | It comes from the Store and integrates well with Windows |
We recommend starting with the first. Once you have seen the channels open in VLC it is easy to move to a richer interface — the subscription details don't change.
The shortest route, with VLC
VLC's advantage is that there is nothing to install — it is often already on the computer.
- Open VLC and go to Media → Open Network Stream. The shortcut is Ctrl + N.
- Paste the playlist address we send you into the field and press Play.
- To see the channel list, open View → Playlist (Ctrl + L). The categories appear in the list as groups.
- If the picture doesn't open or lags, raise the network cache value to between 1000 and 3000 ms under Tools → Preferences → Input/Codecs.
By default VLC keeps a very small buffer — that is fine for local files but not for live streaming. Raising the network cache to 1000–3000 ms removes most channel freezing. Setting the value too high, on the other hand, slows down channel changes — you have to find the middle ground.
The Windows version of IPTV Smarters Pro
If you are used to this app on your phone, it works on the same logic on a computer: the login screen, the categories, the programme guide and the films and series section.
- Run the app's Windows installer. If Windows SmartScreen gives a warning, choose More info → Run anyway — that warning appears because the installer's digital signature is not recognised.
- Open the app and choose the Xtream Codes API login.
- Enter the username, password and server address (copy and paste them).
- Once the list has loaded, check the player selection in the settings: if the built-in player causes trouble, VLC can be set as the external player.
A warning for unsigned installers is normal on Windows and does not mean the app is harmful. Even so, only download the file from the source we point you to. If your antivirus stops the installation, we run the process together remotely — we don't recommend switching the antivirus off entirely.
MyIPTV Player — the Store option
This is a player installed from the Microsoft Store. The advantage: no installer file to download and no signature warning to deal with. The interface is simple and close to Windows' own design.
- Install it from the Store, open it and go to Settings → Add Playlist.
- Paste the playlist address (M3U) and give it a name.
- Add the EPG (programme guide) source in its own field as well — without that step the guide stays empty.
- You can add channel groups to the Favorites list to simplify the main screen.
The codec problem — sound but no picture
This is the most common complaint on Windows: the channel opens, the sound comes through, but the screen stays black. The cause is almost always HEVC (H.265) encoding. High-quality streams use it, and on some versions of Windows the component that reads it is not installed in advance.
Pin the problem down
If one channel has sound but no picture while other channels open normally, the issue is the codec, not the subscription.
Check with VLC
VLC brings its own codecs with it. If the channel opens in VLC, that confirms the problem is in the system codec.
Add HEVC support
There is an HEVC video extension in the Microsoft Store; once it is installed the system players read the format too.
Update the graphics driver
Hardware acceleration misbehaves on an old driver. Update your Intel, AMD or NVIDIA driver.
Switch hardware acceleration off
If none of the above helps, turn hardware decoding off in the player settings — the processor load goes up, but the picture appears.
Connecting a laptop to a television by HDMI
Most people who set IPTV up on a computer end up wanting to watch on a big screen. One HDMI cable solves that, but a few settings need attention.
- Plug the HDMI cable into the laptop and the television, then select the right HDMI input on the television.
- Press Win + P in Windows. Duplicate shows the same picture on both screens, while Extend makes the television a second screen. For watching films Extend is more comfortable — you can throw the player onto the television and get on with something else on the laptop.
- If the sound doesn't come from the television, right-click the volume icon next to the clock and pick the television from the Sound output list. Windows doesn't switch the sound automatically when HDMI is plugged in.
- If the picture is blurry on a 4K television, set the resolution to 3840×2160 and the refresh rate to the highest available value under Settings → System → Display. For that you need an HDMI 2.0 cable — 4K page.
By default Windows goes to sleep when the lid is closed. If you choose “Do nothing” under Control Panel → Power Options → When I close the lid, you can keep the laptop shut and watch on the television. Switching the power plan to “High performance” also reduces channel freezing.
Other problems specific to Windows
| Problem | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The picture plays in stutters | The cache is too small | Raise the network cache in VLC to 1000–3000 ms |
| The installer won't open | SmartScreen or the antivirus is blocking it | More info → Run anyway; download the file from the right source |
| The channel list loads only partly | The network dropped | Close and reopen the player, then reload the list |
| The processor hits 100% | Hardware acceleration isn't working | Update the graphics driver |
| The text and menus are too small | Scaling at a high resolution | Set the scale to 125–150% in the display settings |
| It freezes on Wi-Fi but not on cable | The wireless network is unstable | Connect a LAN cable — on computers this is the most effective fix |
Subscription and price
There is no separate rate for a computer. The same subscription can be used on Windows, on a phone and on a television; only the number of screens open at the same time affects the price.

If the computer and the television run at the same time in the family, you need the multi-device plan. For other devices: macOS, Android, Smart TV. The general setup: setup page.
Let's start with VLC — it is the shortest route. Once the channels are open you can move to whichever player you prefer.
Frequently asked questions
Which program do I need for IPTV on Windows?
The simplest route is VLC: you open the playlist address as a network stream and the channels work. Extra installations and codec downloads are usually not needed.
If you want categories, a programme guide and a films and series archive, the Windows version of IPTV Smarters Pro or MyIPTV Player from the Microsoft Store is more comfortable.
There is sound but the screen is black — what should I do?
This is almost always an HEVC (H.265) codec issue. High-quality streams use that format, and on some versions of Windows the component that reads it is missing.
First try the channel in VLC — VLC brings its own codecs with it. If it works, install the HEVC video extension from the Microsoft Store and update your graphics driver.
Can I connect the laptop to the television and watch?
Yes, an HDMI cable is enough. Once it is plugged in, choose Extend with Win + P and move the player onto the television screen.
If the sound keeps coming from the laptop, right-click the volume icon and pick the television as the output device — Windows doesn't do that automatically.
My antivirus blocks the installer — is it dangerous?
Windows SmartScreen and some antivirus programs warn about installers without a digital signature. That doesn't mean the file is harmful, only that the publisher isn't recognised.
Even so, don't download the file from random sites — we show you which source is the right one on WhatsApp. We don't recommend switching the antivirus off entirely.
The picture stutters on the computer — why?
The first cause is a small buffer: raise the network cache value in VLC to between 1000 and 3000 ms. The second is Wi-Fi — connecting the computer to the router with a LAN cable is the most effective fix.
If the processor load reaches 100%, the issue is hardware acceleration: update the graphics driver.
Does it work on Windows 7 or an older computer?
VLC works on older systems too and opens most channels. Newer versions of the modern players may want Windows 10 or later.
On an old computer the main limit is the processor: 4K and HEVC streams load it heavily without hardware support. In those cases we give you the channel's HD version — and the picture stays smooth.
